Surety bonds, 1848-1877.

Thes are of surety bonds or transcripts of those bonds filed with the State Auditor's office by various state and local officials. The bonds are from a variety of officials which include county tax assessors, state officials, and sheriffs. The sureties are standard bonds declaring that for a set premium the surety company would insure the individual for a given sum for the faithful performance of his or her duties, and that the benefactor of the surety was the State of Ala. or whatever public organization or government the individual worked for.
